Autumn

This post is in honor of all you Lubbockites...those of you who live in a treeless world :) A few weeks ago the trees here in Jersey started to turn, and they get more and more beautiful everyday. Unfortunately, some trees are starting to loose their leaves too, but most of them are still decorated. These are just pictures around here, places we drive by every day. The first one is a tree by the grocery store (BTW, we really miss the customer service of United). The second one is tree right out by our bedroom window. For the third one I just stepped out on our porch and took a picture down the back of our little yard. And the last picture is my favorite. After our weekly trip to the library with Jaron's friend Emily, I saw this bush by the door. It was amazing! The camera can't possibly begin to capture the brilliance of the red color.
And here's Jordan's sweet little class. They had a walk-a-thon on Monday, and Chris, Jaron and I got to go walk with her class. They are so cute!! Her teacher is cute too...Miss Estremera. She just graduated with her master's degree. Jordan really likes her.

This is Jordan's friend Carla. We hear about Carla just about every day! Her mom and I are room moms.
This is Fey, Serena, Katherine, A.J. and Carla. Jordan enjoys her friends!!!
Jaron was dying to meet Dexter, the Dutch Neck Dragon. Dexter let us take a picture too!! (I am not so sure what this pose is all about, but it's funny, that's for sure!!!!!!!)

Tae Kwon Do

Jordan decided she wanted to do karate this semester instead of dance. Oh brother! There is a Tae Kwon Do place across the street from our apartment complex, and they were running an introductory class special for this semester, so we signed her up. So far she has really enjoyed it. It's great exercise, and if she likes it then that's all that matters. The second time their class met they had to state the 5 tenets of Tae Kwon Do (courtesy, intergrity, perseverance, self-control, indomitable spirit) to get their white belt. About half of the class was able to do it, and Jordy was one of them! She was so proud!!!

In other news, I am one of the room mom's for her class this year. Hopefully I will get to be involved in her class as much as possible. I am excited, but I am also wondering what I've gotten myself into :) It will be great!!!!

Just In Case You Didn't Know..........

.........I turned 31 on Sunday. Yup, that's right. I am officially on the trek to 40 now. Blah! Gross! Oh my gosh! Anyway, even though I turned a dreaded 31, I can't think of a better way to have spent my birthday than the way I did...celebrating in New York City with my 3 most favorite people in the world! Enjoy this little trip through our blessed day!!

Before we left for church, Chris made me open my gift. He and the kids got me a bowl FULL of Reese's peanut butter cups (my fave) from the Hershey's store in Times Square. And hidden in that bowl was another wonderful treat...my very own iPod shuffle in my favorite color. (He also bought that in Times Square...at Virgin Records!) Now I am a true New Yorker!! But don't worry, I still say y'all :)

One of the biggest blessings we have been a part of here on the East Coast is our church. It is awesome! We all absolutely love going. The kids are learning so much each week...they come home singing songs or talking about their stories, and they are even getting more comfortable praying before we go to bed. I am so proud of them, but mostly I am thankful to God. And not only has He blessed the kids, but He has blessed us tremendously. I can't even put it into words. So considering all that, my birthday got off to a great start! After church we went around the corner to Chipotle, a gourmet burrito restaurant. I like going there after church for many reasons, and here they are:

#1 We get our food quick. It's kind of like Subway, only with burritos!
#2 The four of us can get plenty to eat for around $30. That's a steal in New York City!!
#3 They serve Mr. Pibb on their fountain, and it is soooooooo good!! (It's hard to find places here that serve Mr. Pibb/Dr. Pepper.)
#4 They have really good chips and guacamole!

After our enjoyable lunch at Chipotle, we headed for Brooklyn. I saw an episode of Rachael Ray's $40 a Day several months ago and she went to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory. They are famous for their egg-less ice cream that is made in small batches each day to preserve the quality. Not only do they have great ice cream but they are in a fabulous location with spectacular views. So we made the journey across the historic bridge........

..........to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory located right next to the Brooklyn Bridge in an old boat house.
Jaron had chocolate ice cream. He tried really hard to keep it from dripping everywhere!!!
Jordy chose peaches and cream...yummy!

Chris and I both opted for chocolate chocolate chunk. This was some of the best ice cream I have ever had! This will not be the last time we visit the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory.
After our sweet treat, we spent some time on the pier. I felt the need to accentuate my age for some reason!!! But who cares about that, look at the view of Manhattan!

Another great view......
I think it's just awesome that our kids get to have their picture taken in front of the Manhattan skyline, don't you!
This is the best view of all :)
This one ain't too bad either!!!!!!!

I have to say this was a pretty perfect day. It is one I will never forget. I must say again how blessed we are. We may not be rich or famous, but we are having a blast exploring New York City a little at a time!! To sum up this old lady's 31st birthday in one word..........YIPEE!!!!

Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania

This past Sunday, Monday and Tuesday we decided to have a little get-away in a small town nestled in the Pocono Mountains called Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania. It is around 2 hours from where we live in New Jersey, and we had a blast!! Jordan didn't have school on Tuesday because of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish holiday, so she only had to miss one day of school. Chris took a couple of personal days from work, too. We stayed at The Inn in Jim Thorpe which is supposed to be haunted. The kids got a kick out of that! They also enjoyed the game room and the continental breakfast. When we got there on Sunday afternoon, it was pouring rain, so Jordan convinced us to get Room Service for supper. She felt like such a princess!!!! And I was glad I didn't have any dirty dishes to clean :)
After the rain cleared out, we sat on the balcony for a while.
A look down the street from the balcony.
And a look in the other direction!
Monday morning brought the sun and a perfect day for river rafting. The Lehigh River was up a bit from all the rain, so we geared-up and got on the water.
That was the first time we had been river rafting. I have tubed down the river before, but we actually had to row with our own oars! Jordan and Jaron splashed us a little, but they actually did really well. Jaron was so into it, that he didn't say a word for the first half of the trip. We stopped half-way and ate a sack lunch, and for the remainder of the trip down the river, Jaron abandoned his oar and had his hand in the water the whole time. Chris was pretty busy making sure Jaron didn't flip over the side of the raft :)
Tuesday began with our lovely continental breakfast and then.....horseback riding!!
I have to admit, I was a little nervous with the idea of Jordan and Jaron having their own horse, but they were on a lead with the two guides. They were so brave and sooooooo big! Jordan rode the horse named Magic, and Jaron rode a sweet, gentle horse, but none of us can remember his name! My horse's name was Pepper, and Chris rode Pogo. It is so funny how, in the short time we rode these horses, we discovered many of their little quirks. Chris's horse made a growling sound when he walked, and my horse was annoyed by the flies. He had to stop every so often and scratch! He was also extremely distracted by the trees. If one came too close to his mouth, he would just grab a bite of the leaves! He ate as much as anything else!!!
Before we headed home, we stopped at Bushkill Falls, which was just down the road from the horse stables.
In the interest of time, and considering there were over a thousand stairs to climb, we opted for the less threatening path to follow. This is the main fall.

Another view of the main fall. Even though we chose the easier path, we were still puffing and panting by the time we got back up to the top!

And as usual, the kids couldn't resist taking a few silly pictures on our way out! They had a good time and got to do lots of fun, out door things that we don't normally get to do. It is so awesome that such fun things are so easily accessible here on the East Coast!! Ya'll come out to visit and we'll show you around!!!!!!!!
